Myth #1- This is a "new" color-
* NPGA Color Charts since founding in 1976
* Herd Book Entries
* Photographs
* Breeder/Owner Statements
Myth #2 - This is a "dairy goat" pattern.
*Statement from world renowned goat color geneticist
*This pattern is not limited to one or two sources.
*Statement from "color workshop/task force" on recent occurrence of "tan" highlights not offspring of any known tan highlighted goats.
*Black and Tan patterns on the Agouti allele
*Pattern can be produced and DNA verified in current purebred animals that have never been known to produce this pattern.
Myth #3-This color will lead to acceptance of spotted and other unusual pattern goats in NPGA.
*Color being confused with Random Markings
*Color has not led to this occurrence in over 20 years
*Recent changes to Breed Standard regarding random markings would be likely source for this.
*Requirement for breed specific markings has and will continue to limit unusual patterns from meeting Standard.
Myth #4- Breeders of this color are out for personal or political gain. (the implication being some gain that breeders of other colors are not out for?)
*Evidence of this is non-existent
*Personal preference of variety of colors exists with all members, free to choose from "all colors"
*Some breeders believe there is merit in the scientific evidence to date and value the continued research into a pattern quite possibly unique to the pygmy goat origins.
