We began our great goat adventure in 1990, after moving to rural San Diego. What started as some cute animals to entertain the children soon became a quest for improving the quality of pygmy goats in the San Diego area to allow our 4-H and FFA students to be more competative. Originally we owned AGS and NPGA registered animals and at that time Del Mar and Norco as well as the East County Fair offered AGS or dual sanctioned NPGA/AGS shows. Some of the first NPGA registered animals in San Diego County were owned by Kandi Nack and myself.

In 1990 the idea of starting a club for our area seemed the next step and a group of about 10 of us formed the San Diego Pygmy Goat Association. We donated kids to the local 4-H groups and sponsored classes and shows and before we knew it, our club had grown to 30 members.

Proverbial Pygmies original buck was Nik-Nak's Obisidian (known as "Sid") and shortly thereafter, PGCH Ram Too Nebo. The help we received from Ruth and Larry Geilenfeldt was invaluable and the quality animals they sold to us became the foundation of a productive and viable herd.

In 1994 I became an AGS judge and in 1996 received my NPGA license. I later added an NDGA license as well. My knowledge of goat conformation and structure increased exponentially with the ability to see and judge hundreds of animals a year. It strengthened my conviction to breed for a structurally correct and productive animal above all else and to appreciate the beauty of those animals. "Breeding for productivity, longevity, and the beauty of it all" is our motto and our goal.
